Ríos antiguos, ríos entubados, ríos muertos - Tania Candiani

This sound installation is part of a series of works on dead rivers, in which a hydrographic representation code of the riverbed becomes a sound production code, using the «music box» mechanism. This piece takes up the layout of the rivers that crossed the territory occupied by Mexico City. It consists of 21 musical boxes whose cylinder is built with protuberances that "translate" the hydrographic layout of each river into a musical composition. Each sound mechanism is in turn placed inside a resonance box that includes a representation of that trace in the form of slots that modifies the acoustic qualities of the object.
